Insisting on a Mustahabb Act
Question
If a person who practises [the customs of] flowers, flower garlands, the second du‘a and the like reproaches one who does not practise them — can these mustahabb acts be performed in such circumstances, and will this not fall under bid‘a?
Answer
As for that whose recommendedness (istihbab) is established by legal proofs — through insisting on it and reproaching the one who omits it, its recommendedness ceases and it acquires the quality of makruh (disliked): [ar]الْإِصْرَارُ عَلَى الْمَنْدُوبِ يُبَلِّغُهُ إِلَى حَدِّ الْكَرَاهَةِ[/ar] “Insistence on the mandub brings it to the level of makruh” (“Sabahat al-Fikr”).
