Whose Bodies Does the Earth Not Consume?
Question
The prophets ﵈, the noble awliya, the scholars of religion, the martyrs and the memorisers (huffaz) of the Qur’an, those who act upon the Qur’an, those who excel in the station of love (of Allah), a body that never disobeyed Allah ﷻ, and those who keep their time absorbed in the noble salawat — is it so that the earth cannot consume their bodies?
Answer
‘Allama Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti ﵀ in “Sharh al-Sudur” (p. 132) and Shaykh ‘Abd al-Wahhab al-Sha‘rani ﵀ in “Mukhtasar Tadhkirat al-Qurtubi” (p. 38) have counted, together with the prophets ﵈, certain others as well whose bodies remain preserved in the grave and whom the earth does not consume: [ar]إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَرَّمَ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ أَنْ تَأْكُلَ أَجْسَادَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ.
