Abundant Worship in a Short Time: Reply to an Objection to a Report

Question

In “Faza’il-e Namaz” (فضائل نماز), p. 81, a report about Hazrat Imam Zayn al-‘Abidin ﵀ is recorded on the authority of “Nuzhat al-Basatin”, in which it is related that he used to perform one thousand rak‘as of voluntary (nafl) prayer daily. A certain mathematician objects to this report — while counting himself among the people of knowledge. His objection is that Hazrat Shaykh (madda zilluhu)

Answer

Allah the Exalted grants blessing (baraka) in the time of His chosen servants, which is above mathematical calculation. Imam al-Nawawi has written that it was the practice of some eminent persons to complete the entire Holy Qur’an eight times in 24 hours.
