Who Are the Ma‘sum (Sinless)?

Question

Who all come under the definition of ma‘sum (sinless)? Is the occurrence of an evil act from them possible or impossible?

Answer

The prophets ﵈, the angels and innocent children are all included among the ma‘sum. The issuance from them of an evil act entailing punishment is impossible — not in itself, but by virtue of an external cause (mumtani‘ bi-l-ghayr).
