Forgetfulness (Nisyan) in the Prophet ﷺ

Question

Some people say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ never experienced forgetfulness (nisyan); whoever establishes forgetfulness in the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has gravely insulted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ — as if he does not believe in the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. They also say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was given the knowledge of magic (sihr) in its entirety, but he did not practise magic. Is this correct?

Answer

It comes in the noble hadith that the Prophet ﷺ said: “I forget just as you forget.” This much is certain: in religious matters forgetfulness did not occur from him; and if at some time forgetfulness did happen by chance, he was at once alerted to it. Guarding oneself against magic (sihr) is obligatory (wajib)
