Swearing a false oath while lifting the Qur’an
Question
Question: A person really did commit a wrong and he is aware of his wrong, but because the woman raised a commotion, this person lifted the Glorious Qur’an so that the woman would be satisfied. What should the expiation (kaffara) for this be, and how should it be performed?
Answer
Doing a wrong deed, denying it, and swearing an oath on it while lifting the Noble Qur’an is a major sin. Its evil consequence is very severe; in this world there is no expiation (kaffara) for it. He should keep repenting and keep weeping — may Allah the Most High forgive him.
