Description

Brilliant Black BN, Black PN is a synthetic bis-azo dye: sulphanilic acid → diazotisation → coupling with 8-aminonaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid (1,7-Cleve's acid) → diazotisation → coupling with N-acetyl K acid → tetrasodium salt. The sources name no animal raw material in the synthesis. Possible links: carriers and additives of commercial forms and preparations (EU carrier class; Roha liquid forms («sol», «liquids»)

Basis of the ruling

Brilliant Black BN is a synthetic azo colour. It is made from sulphanilic acid, 1,7-Cleve's acid (8-aminonaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid) and N-acetyl-K acid — petrochemical products — by diazotisation; common salt and sodium sulphate remain in the powder.
