الْحَلَالُ بَيِّنٌ وَالْحَرَامُ بَيِّنٌ، وَبَيْنَهُمَا مُشَبَّهَاتٌ لَا يَعْلَمُهَا كَثِيرٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ، فَمَنِ اتَّقَى الْمُشَبَّهَاتِ اسْتَبْرَأَ لِدِينِهِ وَعِرْضِهِ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The lawful is clear and the unlawful is clear, and between them are doubtful matters that many people do not know. Whoever guards against the doubtful matters protects his religion and his honor.”

Description

Tartrazine is a synthetic azo dye: sulphanilic acid → diazotisation (HCl, NaNO2) → coupling with 1-(4-sulphophenyl)-5-oxopyrazoline-3-carboxylic acid or its methyl/ethyl ester (then hydrolysis) → purification and isolation as the sodium salt; per JECFA also condensation of phenylhydrazine-4-sulphonic acid with dioxosuccinic or oxalacetic acid. The sources name no animal raw material in the synthesis.
