Chicken fat — is it halal?

Ruling: Haram

Description

Chicken fat — raw poultry fat and the edible fat rendered from it (schmaltz). Used in broths, snacks, “chicken” flavourings. The bird species is stated on the label of rendered poultry fat sold as such (TR EAEU 051/2021, point 119); in another food refined fat may be called “animal” (1169/2011).

Basis of the ruling

Chicken fat is raw poultry fat and the fat rendered from it (schmaltz); it is added to broths, snacks and 'chicken' flavourings. Rendering only separates the fat from the tissue — the fat remains the same fat, its essence does not change.
