Sadaqat al-fitr: on the morning of Eid or in Ramadan

Question

Is it better to pay sadaqat al-fitr in blessed Ramadan, and does it carry seventyfold reward, or is it better to give it on the morning of Eid?

Answer

The purpose of paying sadaqat al-fitr on the morning of Eid is that the needs of the poor may be fulfilled. If it is paid in Ramadan itself, before the date of Eid begins, it is more helpful to this purpose, and the special reward of Ramadan is separate in its own right.
