The Price of Which Place Counts for the Fitra
Question
In Barhi (?) and elsewhere wheat is not grown, nor is wheat sold; however, in some houses a small quantity of flour is sold, and fine white flour in abundance, as well as biscuits. Fine flour sells much dearer than ordinary flour and wheat. In such a case, should money be given calculating by the price of fine flour, or should the price of wheat in India be ascertained and the value paid?
Answer
The sadaqa will be discharged by giving any one of the three — wheat, fine flour or ordinary flour: [ar]الفطرة نصف صاع من بر أو دقيق[/ar] “The fitra is half a sa‘ of wheat or flour…” (“al-Hidaya”, vol. 1, p. 190).
