Grain set aside at harvest may also be spent on a mosque
Question
There is a mosque attached to a madrasa; most of the mosque’s work is carried out by the madrasa itself, while the mosque’s accounts are kept separate from the madrasa’s. The madrasa’s financial state is weak; the madrasa renders solid service to religious knowledge, and a large number of students from outside also study there. In this case, is it permissible or not to put — that is, to spend — the harvest grain that is set aside “after the fortieth” (?) on the mosque?
Answer
This grain is not obligatory charity; if those who give it give it for the mosque, then spending it on the mosque’s expenses is also correct.
