Paying salaries from donation money

Question

A teacher goes out in blessed Ramadan on behalf of the madrasa to collect donations, in the course of which he brings back zakat, fitra and similar money. After he has returned home, may the teacher’s salary be paid from this money before tamlik (transfer of ownership), or not?

Answer

It is not permissible to pay salaries from zakat money. The zakat will be discharged when that money reaches the entitled person as his property; then, if he gives it to the madrasa of his own accord, willingly and without any pressure, giving it as salary will be correct.
