Is one whose needs are met entitled to zakat?
Question
Khalid, who was entitled to zakat, used to take zakat. Now his income from service in the mosque and the madrasa can somehow suffice. If he now cannot take zakat funds and use them for himself — and the people who give to him give without being asked — may he take it and pass it on to another person entitled to zakat, or not? That is, the people who used to give to him before still give; Khalid takes it, does not use it for himself, and passes it on to others who are entitled.
Answer
Since his needs are met even without taking zakat, it would be good for him to tell those who give zakat: “By the grace of Allah Most High, my needs are now met; give it to someone in need.”
