Strong debt and weak debt
Question
Nepali people come to us and take goods, and sometimes they pay the price only after eight or ten years. The ruling is known that the price of merchandise is a case of strong debt (qard qawi), as is written in “Bihishti Zewar” (“Heavenly Ornaments”), and its ruling is also this: when those rupees are received, zakat for all the years will have to be paid, according to calculation.
Answer
This debt is a strong debt (dayn qawi) in this case too: you are fully confident that it will be recovered (even if late), otherwise you would not sell your goods to these people. Therefore its ruling is the same as that of a strong debt.
