Zakat on a widow

Question

A widow has approximately two hundred rupees including her jewellery; she lives with her own son, and the son provides her maintenance (nafaqa) and medical treatment from his own income. Is zakat wajib on such a woman on a modest sum or not?

Answer

It is wajib, provided that it reaches the amount of the nisab.
