Praying in the Eidgah Instead of the Mosques
Question
There is a small town with Muslim population on all sides; in every quarter there is a mosque, and in the middle of the town there is an Eidgah (ground for the Eid prayer). Here in the month of Ramadan it always happens that many people of the town leave the mosques and perform the five daily prayers and tarawih in this very Eidgah, although there are four to six mosques in its vicinity and they can hear the adhan of the mosques well.
Answer
Leaving the mosques and performing the prayer the whole of Ramadan in the Eidgah is a wrong practice; it amounts to making the mosques desolate and unfrequented. Do not do this. Let everyone keep the mosques of their own quarters populated with the adhan and the congregation (jama‘a) in blessed Ramadan.
