The Rule for Deducting Salary Paid from the Mosque’s Income
Question
A mosque employee, who is called the muezzin because he gives the adhan, also cleans the mosque, arranges the water, and does other work of the mosque, for which he receives a monthly salary. He also has a small plot of cultivable land, and because he is poor he also does some other trading.
Answer
The managing committee must lay down a rule of leave for him — for example, that you may take leave for one or two days in a month, or fifteen days or one month over the whole year (as suits the circumstances); if he is absent beyond that, the salary will be deducted. There is no authority to spend the mosque’s money where it does not belong.
