Money Borrowed and Given for Building a Mosque — Is It Halal?
Question
In connection with the construction of a mosque, Zayd borrowed one hundred rupees from Bakr and gave them. Later he repaid his debt from gambling or speculative betting — in short, from unlawful earnings. In the present situation, is that sum halal or haram for the mosque?
Answer
He gave the money after borrowing it; that money was not from speculative betting or gambling, so this haram will have no effect on it. Its prohibition is separate and independent.
