A mosque arch over a road and a two-storey mosque
Question
The mosque located in Sabzi Mandi (the vegetable market) in Shahjahanpur needs to be enlarged because it is cramped. So the mutawalli (trustee) of the mosque and the people of the neighbourhood are of the opinion that the mosque should be built with two storeys, and that the courtyard of the upper storey should be built out to the road on the eastern side; in this way the mosque will be enlarged.
Answer
Praying after putting up an arched span over the road is, in the situation asked about, valid according to the Shari‘a; and since this span adjoins the courtyard of the mosque and the rows of the mosque continue unbroken up to it, the reward of congregational prayer will also be obtained.
