The Designated Purposes of a Waqf
Question
Question: A waqif (endower), having made his property a waqf, set out the purpose of the waqf in the waqf deed as follows: “My property is made a waqf in the path of Allah for ever and ever; it may not be sold or auctioned for any debt or court decree; from its income good works will be carried on, and reward will continually reach the souls of the waqif and of his elders.” The details of the good works: (1) Assistance to needy relatives (dhawi al-qurba) — ماص—— annually. (2)
Answer
All the matters mentioned are a means of reward and recompense, and making a waqf in order to spend on them is valid in the Shari‘a. If at some time any one of them no longer remains and ceases to exist, the share of that head is to be spent on other heads and avenues of good.
