The status of the mutawalli in a “private” mosque
Question
Question: Here the respected mutawalli has his own private mosque; he spends from the waqf property, there is no committee, and in affairs he does not consult any of the congregation?
Answer
A mosque is never anyone’s private property. The mutawalli is obliged to keep accounts of the waqf property; if he spends [it] in a wrong way, he will be strictly called to account.
