Did the Respected Sabir Burn His Wife?

Question

Question: the respected Sabir was undoubtedly a saint, but there is a report that, overcome by anger, he burned his wife, and this on the wedding night; and the respected Sabir did not fulfil his wife’s right. If he was a saint, then why did not fulfilling the wife’s right go against the command of the Messenger ﷺ? In one place the Messenger ﷺ said: marry the one who bears more children — and this goes against that [account]. Does this cast doubt on his sainthood, or not?

Answer

I have not read in any book that Hazrat Makhdum ‘Ali Ahmad Sabir burned [his] wife. Burning a wife — or any other human being — is not permissible according to the Shari‘a. Some devotees, as well as some opponents, attribute false things to saints, for which there is no proof whatsoever.
