Was Khwaja Mu‘in al-Din Chishti the First to Come to India?

Question

Question: a certain person claims that Khwaja Mu‘in al-Din Chishti was the very first to come to India, and that before him no Muslim had come here at all. Is his claim correct?

Answer

It is established that in the first century of the Hijra some of the Companions ﵃ and the Tabi‘un came to India. Muhammad ibn Qasim’s coming to the region of Sindh is mentioned repeatedly in history books; and after that too, in nearly every century, some Muslims or other kept coming.
