The Colour of the Covering of the Ka‘ba

Question

This humble one has repeatedly felt the thought occurring to him: since you know that the Divine Light is white and the colour of the Muhammadan Light is green, why do the scholars of truth pay no attention to the black colour of the covering of the House of the Ka‘ba? For the colours in which the accepted Prophet ﷺ covered the House of the Ka‘ba were red, white, or green. Moreover, this humble one also has in his heart the thought that in Sufism this colour is attributed to the Christians.

Answer

The covering of the sacred House of Allah was first hung in white silk (dibaj abyad) by al-Ma’mun al-Rashid; this continued for a long time. Then Muhammad ibn Sabuktegin hung a covering of yellow silk (dibaj asfar). Then al-Nasir al-‘Abbasi hung a covering of green silk (dibaj akhdar). Then the same [al-Nasir] hung a covering of black silk (dibaj aswad)
