Why the Wife Did Not Inform Her Husband of the Child’s Death

Question

Who was that Companion, and what was his wife’s name — the one whose son had passed away, while the wife told her husband that the child was quite well, and had even adorned herself, on account of which the husband (the Companion) had relations with her that night? [Only] then did the wife say: “Your son has passed away — be patient, it was [only] a trust entrusted to you, and it has been taken back.

Answer

That Companion was Hazrat Abu Talha, and his wife was Hazrat Umm Sulaym, the mother of Hazrat Anas. The child’s name was Abu ‘Umayr. Hazrat Abu Talha was fasting; in the evening, while he was attending upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ or had gone elsewhere, the child passed away.
