Burying the Daughter of the Prophet ﷺ
Question
The noble Zaynab, daughter of the Prophet ﷺ, passed away, and the Prophet ﷺ said: “Let whichever of you has not had intimacy with his wife tonight descend into the grave.” Thereupon the noble Abu Talha ﵁ said: “O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, that is I”; so Abu Talha ﵁ descended, even though the Prophet ﷺ himself was, from head to foot, pure light. What was the reason for this, as it is mentioned in the Mishkat?
Answer
This account is not about the noble Zaynab but about Umm Kulthum ﵂, who was the wife of the noble ‘Uthman ﵁; and in this instruction of the Prophet ﷺ there is a subtle admonition to ‘Uthman, for he had had intimacy with one of his slave-girls that very night.
