Some questions about hijab during the ‘idda

Question

Question: My father passed away very recently. During his illness my mother too was constantly running about in the hospital and so on, and during that time it was not possible for her to observe hijab (veiling from non-mahram men) even from many people from whom she used to observe hijab. Now, after his death, the situation is this: at home, that is in Dehradun, my younger sister and my mother are left. In the household work it is unavoidable to need the help of others.

Answer

Whoever is a non-mahram according to the Shari‘a (a man with whom marriage is not permanently forbidden), observing hijab from him is obligatory, whether it is the time of ‘idda or not. Observing hijab from Zayd is obligatory as well. He may live separately somewhere outside; he should not meet your respected mother in private. (1) Hijab is necessary. (2) It is necessary. (3)
