The Husband Kept the Divorce Deed Himself
Question
Question: The nikah of the questioner was contracted with Paku; four years have passed since. When, after the nikah, I went to my husband’s house according to custom, Paku did not come near me, nor did he speak to me. I stayed in his house for three or four months. Seeing his indifference, one day I set shame aside and said to him: “If you have some kind of deficiency, get yourself treated.” At this he began to oppress and mistreat me.
Answer
In such a situation you have the right, with the counsel of your parents, to have your nikah contracted elsewhere; but make arrangements so that the said Paku cannot take any legal action against you.
