Written Talaq and Later Denial of the Letter
Question
Shafiq Ahmad, known as Lassa, sent the following text addressed to his wife’s father; Lassa wrote this letter to Imtiyaz Khan: “I suppose (?) that I came to your place to call this girl, to which I received a wrong answer: ‘I do not know (?), the girl’s father and brother know.’ I also went a second time, but still received no answer. Therefore my answer too is that we will not keep her. I gave talaq to Imtiyaz’s daughter Shakila; therefore from my side this is the answer to her: I gave talaq, (2) I gave talaq, (3)
Answer
The writing you have quoted in this question, which Shafiq Ahmad admitted before a gathering — while at that time Shafiq Ahmad was not compelled to admit it but was merely asked — by virtue of this writing a major (mughallaza) divorce has taken effect. His denial now changes nothing.
