Relating a Talaq Does Not Effect Talaq

Question

A few people were gathered in connection with the talaq and separation of a girl; among those assembled was also a man named Zayd. There was some discussion about the girl's talaq, then the young man was called and made to pronounce talaq on the girl. When the talaq had been done, everyone went to their homes; the man named Zayd also left. On reaching home, Zayd uttered the sentence “gave talaq to his wife” two or three times.

Answer

If Zayd said to his wife in this way, “I have given you talaq” (میں نے تم کو طلاق دیدی), and said it three times, then major (mughallaza) divorce has taken place, and the two should be separated. But if he said it in this way: “So-and-so said to his wife: ‘I gave you talaq’” (میں نے تم کو طلاق دی), then no talaq will take effect from it.
