Does Drinking Alcohol Nullify Wudu?

Question

(1) A person has wudu. While in a state of wudu he drank alcohol. Does drinking alcohol break wudu or not? (2) A person drank so much alcohol that he did not become intoxicated and did not lose consciousness. May he pray in such a state?

Answer

(1) Wudu is not broken merely by drinking alcohol as long as intoxication does not occur; however, the mouth becomes impure, since alcohol is najis, and drinking it is haram. (2) If he prays in such a state, the prayer will be valid. Caution (tanbih)
