The Length, Width and Depth of a Pool
Question
What should be the minimum length and width of a Shar‘i pool? The pool of our mosque is 25 feet long, 12 feet wide and 5½ feet deep. We want to reduce the depth of the pool by one foot — is there any harm in this?
Answer
A Shar‘i pool should be at least ten cubits long and ten cubits wide. If the width falls somewhat short, the length should be increased so that the proportion of ten by ten cubits is attained. A depth of four and a half feet is also sufficient.
