The Measurements of a Pool
Question
How much depth, length and width are required for the pools that are built in mosques? And how much is the Shar‘i gaz in terms of the gaz currently in use (a unit of length, about a yard, ≈ 0.9 m)?
Answer
Ten gaz in length and ten gaz in width are sufficient. What is meant here is the Shar‘i gaz, which in Arabic is called dhira‘ (cubit). One official gaz equals two Arabic dhira‘, i.e. [this is] five official gaz in length and the same in width. No specific measure is fixed for the depth.
