What is the ruling on nafl prayer after the maghrib adhan?
Question
The maghrib adhan has been called, [and] people perform nafl prayers. I follow [the madhhab of] the respected Imam Abu Hanifa. Should I too make wudu’ and perform two [rak‘as of] nafl before the fard prayer? If I should, then why is the fard placed first in this prayer? And approximately how long is the time of maghrib?
Answer
[ar]وكره نفل بعد صلاة فجر وعصر وقبل صلاة مغرب لكراهة تأخيره إلا يسيرا[/ar] “And nafl is makruh after the fajr and ‘asr prayers and before the maghrib prayer, because delaying it [the maghrib prayer] is disliked, except slightly” (al-Durr al-Mukhtar, vol. 1, p. 252).
