Prostrating on the prayer mat with the feet on the ground

Question

After leading the fard prayer, the imam moved forward on the same prayer mat and performed the sunna prayer. People objected that one should not [pray with] the feet on the prayer mat, i.e. on a raised surface, and the prostration on the ground, i.e. lower down. Please explain this issue in the light of the Shari'a.

Answer

This objection of the people is misplaced and idle.
