Repeating one verse of prostration makes only one prostration wajib
Question
Please inform us of the Sharia ruling on this matter. (a) A teacher teaches a student a verse of prostration: he recites the verse himself and also hears it from the student. Must both the teacher and the student each perform two prostrations — one for reciting and the other for hearing — or only one each? (b) In a madrasa a student was taught a verse of prostration repeatedly, then there was engagement in other lessons, then the same student was made to memorize two verses(?)
Answer
(a, b, c) If all this was done while sitting in one and the same sitting — that is, reciting and having [the student] recite, or hearing and having [others] hear — then by the repetition of each single verse only one sajda al-tilawa will be wajib.
