Forgot the Sitting After Two Rak'as and Stood Up
Question
If in tarawih the imam, after two rak'as, rises more than halfway, and some followers stand up while some sit down — should the imam, having risen more than halfway, sit down again, or, having stood up, simply keep on reciting? Or, after the imam has stood up, is it necessary to sit down immediately? Will these four rak'as be counted as only two rak'as?
Answer
In such a state — even though he had already come close to standing — the imam should sit down and afterwards perform sajda al-sahw: [ar]ولو سها عن القعود الأخير كله أو بعضه عاد ما لم يقيدها بسجدة، وسجد للسهو لتأخير القعود.
