What to do if rain begins during the prayer

Question

If a person is praying with the imam and rain begins before the prayer is completed, what is the ruling? Is the prayer to be completed in the same place, or should he go to another place and start it anew (isti'naf)?

Answer

If rain comes in the very midst of the prayer and it cannot be endured, the prayer should be started anew (isti'naf); bina' (continuing the prayer from where it was interrupted) is not permitted.
