Imamate of One Who Recites Incorrectly: A Young Hafiz in Tarawih

Question

Among us a fifteen-year-old boy has become a hafiz, but he has no acquaintance at all with religious knowledge and rulings, nor has any religious scholar, hafiz or qari confirmed that he recites the Qur’an correctly. What is the ruling on praying tarawih behind such a boy?

Answer

There is still enough time. Let him be taught the necessary rulings of purity and prayer from reliable books such as “Ta‘lim al-Islam”, and let them ask some respected hafiz whether he recites correctly; or else let them listen to the Noble Qur’an [being recited] by him in tarawih, [standing] behind him.
