People of Knowledge and Understanding Should Stand Near the Imam

Question

Who should stand behind the imam: a knowledgeable, sighted person, or a blind, ignorant one?

Answer

All the followers stand behind the imam; however, close to the imam there should stand people who possess knowledge, so that, if there is a need to prompt the imam or to set the prayer right in some other way, it is easy to do.
