The mutawalli putting forward someone other than the imam for Jumu‘a
Question
While there was a respected permanent imam possessing all the merits — hafiz, qari, ‘alim, hajji and so on — by the decision of the mosque’s mutawalli the respected imam was formally informed that today the respected mutawalli’s son — a sixteen-year-old student with a beautiful voice [who has learnt] eight juz’ (parts of the Qur’an), that is, a hafiz of eight juz’ with a beautiful voice — would lead the prayer; and the prayer was led.
Answer
This should not have been done. Had the respected imam offered it himself, that would have been another matter. In this situation the imamate belonged first and foremost to the said permanent imam. Nevertheless, the following was valid, and in the case asked about the prayer was fulfilled.
