An imam disabled in one hand

Question

A certain man is righteous and observant of the Shari'a, and a hafiz of the Qur'an; the difficulty is that he is disabled in his right hand and does all his tasks with his left hand only. He is a man of few words and loves cleanliness. Is the imamate of such a hafiz valid or not?

Answer

An imam who is disabled in his right hand, but performs purification and cleanliness fully and is fit for the imamate — his imamate is valid according to the Shari'a, although the imamate of one who is not disabled is preferable (awla). May Allah Most High grant your imam health and well-being.
