Prayer Behind a Raza-Khani (a Follower of Ahmad Raza Khan, i.e. a Barelvi)
Question
In India there is a sect that calls itself Ahl al-Sunna wa-l-Jama‘a and regards Ahmad Raza Khan Barelvi as its leader. If a person who belongs to this sect, or who holds its beliefs, is the imam of a mosque, what is the ruling on praying behind him?
Answer
Not every mubtadi‘ (innovator) is in the same position: some innovators are extreme (ghali) and have fallen into kufr and shirk — do not pray behind them. If, out of ignorance, someone has prayed behind such a person, repeating it (i‘ada) is not required.
