Imamate of an Imam Who Takes Sadaqat al-Fitr and Sacrificial Hides
Question
A certain well-to-do man of Sayyid lineage is imam in a mosque, and this mosque has two kinds of income: one income is 40–50 rupees on the Night of Qadr in Ramadan, and the other income is fitra, sadaqa and the hides of sacrificial animals. Of these two incomes, which is permissible for the imam and which impermissible?
Answer
It is impermissible for a well-to-do person who possesses the nisab to take sadaqat al-fitr, and by giving it to such a person the sadaqat al-fitr is not discharged. Likewise, giving it as payment for the imamate and the like is also impermissible.
