One Person Serving as Imam in Two Mosques
Question
How can one person, or one imam, lead the imamate and iqama in two mosques at one and the same time? A certain imam has been given a mosque for whose income there are fifty or forty bighas (a local unit of land area) of open farmland held as property (milk), and on it there is an orchard and a dervish lodge, the income of which the said imam uses for his own expenses; and in this lodge and orchard there is also a shrine, whose offerings and the like the respected imam also takes.
Answer
When a person has been engaged for the imamate of one mosque with a fixed remuneration, the imamate of that mosque is binding upon him; leaving that mosque to go and lead prayer in some other mosque is impermissible. If he leaves that mosque and goes to lead prayer in another mosque, he will not be entitled to that fixed remuneration.
