The Committee Entrusted Its Accounts to the Imam, and He Committed Various Breaches of Trust in Them

Question

If the prayer imam of some mosque has committed some breach of trust in the accounts and bookkeeping of the mosque or madrasa that the managing committee had entrusted to him, and the managing committee has obtained complete proof of it, then what responsibility falls on the said committee in such a case: should they keep having the said imam lead the prayer, or remove him from the post of imam?

Answer

(1–6) Lying, breach of trust, embezzlement, and spreading division and discord to hide one’s own fault are matters whose ruling is hidden from no Muslim: everyone knows these things are impermissible and sinful. The post of imam is a lofty post; the imam ought to be more devoted to following the sunna and of higher character than all the muqtadis.
