The imamate of one in the habit of abusing

Question

Is a man fit for the imamate who has the habit of using abusive language when he speaks, who abuses the muqtadis and calls [them] hypocrites (munafiqs)?

Answer

This trait is in no way befitting for the imamate: its office is an exalted one, [and such behaviour] is contrary to the dignity of the imamate. He should reform himself; otherwise he will deserve to be removed from the imamate. Caution (tanbih): it is a severe trial for the muqtadis when they are given such imams.
