The imamate of one who officiates a nikah at a gathering with singing and music
Question
A person who officiates a nikah at a gathering where musical instruments are played — is his imamate valid or not?
Answer
If at a wedding there are things contrary to the Shari‘a — singing, music and the like — and this is known beforehand, then taking part in it is prohibited, both for the imam and for the muqtadi. If the imam has officiated the nikah at such a place and taken part, he should repent and seek forgiveness (istighfar) and abstain in future.
