Lingering in the qawma and jalsa
Question
The Noble Messenger ﷺ used to remain in the qawma and the jalsa for so long that it was thought he had forgotten. Can imams nowadays also do so in following the sunna, provided it is not burdensome for the muqtadis?
Answer
There is an emphatic instruction from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that the prayer should be led lightly, because among those praying there are the sick, the weak and those with needs (someone who has to finish quickly and leave). If, however, one prays alone, he may lengthen it as much as he wishes.
